How to play Sic Bo

Every bet on the Sic Bo table, its exact chance from the 216 ways three dice can land, and what the Mega Sic Bo multipliers do to the payouts.

Sic Bo in 4 lines

  • Three dice are shaken in a cage, and you bet on what they show: a total, a double, a triple or a combination.
  • Three dice can land 216 ways, so every bet's chance can be worked out exactly.
  • Small, Big, Odd and Even are the cheapest bets: they return 97.22% of stakes. They lose on any triple, which is where the house edge comes from.
  • In Mega Sic Bo, random multipliers pay up to 1,000x on some bets, and those bets return far less when no multiplier lands.

How a round works

  1. Bet. Place chips on the table layout, which has 52 betting positions.
  2. Multipliers. In Mega Sic Bo, once bets close, several positions are picked at random and given a Mega Multiplier.
  3. Roll. The dealer shakes three dice in a cage until they settle.
  4. Settle. Bets that match the dice are paid; a multiplied position pays its multiplied odds. Your stake comes back with any win.

The 216 ways three dice can land

Each die has 6 faces, so three dice give 6 × 6 × 6 = 216 equally likely results. Totals in the middle are far more common than totals at the ends:

Ways to roll each total, out of 216. Totals of 3 and 18 can only come from a triple.

How many of the 216 outcomes of three dice make each totalBars rise from 1 way for a total of 3 to 27 ways for 10 and 11, then fall back to 1 way for 18. Totals 3 and 18 can only come from a triple, and 6, 9, 12 and 15 each include one triple.314356610715821925102711271225132114151510166173181Small: 4 to 10Big: 11 to 17

Example roll: 2, 4, 5, total 11. Big and Odd win. Small, Even and Any Triple lose.

Small totals Big totals the triple inside a total, which Small, Big, Odd and Even all lose on. The number under each total is its ways out of 216. Roll the dice and a tick on each bar marks the share of rolls so far that made that total, on the same scale. After a few rolls the ticks jump about; over thousands they tend to settle near the tops of the bars. Each roll is independent, so the ticks say nothing about the next one.

Every bet, its chance and what it pays

Payouts are Mega Sic Bo's, from Pragmatic Play's game rules. The regular payout applies on most rounds. The multiplied payout is the most a Mega Multiplier can raise it to, and only on the rounds a multiplier lands on that bet.

Totals pair up because the dice are symmetrical: there are as many ways to roll 7 as to roll 14. Each total is still its own bet.

Single bets (on one number, such as Five) pay 1 to 1 if it shows on one die, 2 to 1 on two dice and 3 to 1 on all three. At regular pay that returns 92.13% of stakes. The one-die part is never multiplied; the two and three-dice parts can be, up to 19 to 1 and 87 to 1.

Why Small and Big are the cheapest bets

Small wins on totals of 4 to 10 and Big on 11 to 17: that's 105 outcomes each out of 216. The other 6 outcomes are the triples, and Small and Big both lose on a triple even if the total is in range. Paying evens on 105 chances in 216 returns 97.22%, a house edge of 2.78%. That matches the 97.22% return to player Pragmatic Play publishes for these bets. Odd and Even work the same way.

What the Mega Multipliers do

At regular pay, the bets that can be multiplied return between 58% and 90% of stakes. Pragmatic Play's published range for the whole game is 95.47% to 97.22%. The gap is paid back only on the rounds a multiplier lands on your bet and the dice match it.

So the multiplied bets work like a game show: most rounds return less than the published figure, and the difference arrives in occasional large wins. Small, Big, Odd and Even are never multiplied, which makes them the steadiest bets on the table as well as the cheapest.

Classic Sic Bo

Classic Sic Bo, without multipliers, uses the same bets, but its payouts differ from casino to casino, and so does its house edge. The chances of each bet don't change, because they come from the dice. If you play a different version, put its payouts into the same sum: chance of winning times (payout plus 1) gives the return.

Roadmaps and hot numbers

Mega Sic Bo shows the last 100 results as roadmaps and charts, and the game's own help says they can help you "identify trends". Dice have no memory, though. Every roll has the same 216 equally likely outcomes, whatever came before, so the roadmaps describe the past and say nothing about the next roll.

Before you play

Check the bet limits on the lobby tile and the payouts in the game's help screen, because Sic Bo payouts vary between versions. In Mega Sic Bo, remember the multiplied odds only apply on the rounds a multiplier lands on your bet.

Sic Bo questions

Which Sic Bo bets cost least?

Small, Big, Odd and Even. Each wins 105 times in 216 and pays evens, returning 97.22% of stakes, a house edge of 2.78%. They lose on any triple, which is where that edge comes from. In Mega Sic Bo they're never multiplied, so they're also the steadiest bets on the table.

What are the odds of a triple in Sic Bo?

Any Triple comes up 6 times in 216 rolls, or 2.78%, and one particular triple, such as three 5s, just once in 216 (0.46%). At Mega Sic Bo's regular payouts of 30 to 1 and 150 to 1, those bets return 86.11% and 69.91% of stakes on rounds without a multiplier.

What is the most likely total in Sic Bo?

10 and 11, which each come up 27 times in 216 rolls (12.50%). Totals bunch in the middle because more combinations of three dice make them. The ends are rare: a total of 4 comes up 3 times in 216, and so does 17, while 3 and 18 can only come from a triple.

How do Mega Sic Bo multipliers work?

After bets close, several betting positions are picked at random and given a Mega Multiplier, which can raise a payout to as much as 1,000x. The bets that can be multiplied pay low regular odds the rest of the time, returning as little as 58% on rounds without a multiplier, and make up the gap in rare large wins.

Do Sic Bo roadmaps help predict the next roll?

No. Dice have no memory, so every roll has the same 216 equally likely outcomes, whatever came before. Mega Sic Bo shows the last 100 results as roadmaps and charts, and they make a run of Big or Small look meaningful, but they only describe rolls that have already happened.
